Safety Appliances Manufacturers Association

Since 1969 our Non-Profit Organization has been endeavoring to help society at large – by enhancing safety awareness and guiding the end-user for optimum usage of Safety Appliances and services, technologies, and equipment.

We organize events & campaigns for our members that boost workplace safety awareness across industries.

The main objective of SAMA is to shape up the industry as an organized sector and form our own representation for redressal of common challenges of growth of safety fraternity as a whole.

Right from its inception, SAMA had loyal and selfless workers who have placed considerable effort to ensure consistent growth of our Safety Industry.

Today, SAMA is putting effort to implement Indian Standards (ISI), and providing needed raw materials and technical expertise. We have received considerable support and assistance from National Safety Council (NSC), Central Labor Institute (CLI), and the Council of Industrial Safety.

Our History

SAMA came into being in the year 1969 mainly to look after the interest of safety appliances manufacturers. It was founded by Late Joseph Leslie Vas, Late Francis Leslie Vas, Late M.D. Shroff, Late Fida Hussain Makati, Late Gulabchand P. Jauhari, and more.

In 1969, There were about thirty small-scale safety appliance manufacturing companies spread out all across the country. Safety, being a small, unorganized and unrecognized sector at that time, was not able to meet the demands of the market. The majority of these companies were situated in Mumbai and Kolkata. With the coming up of new large-scale industries of Steel, Fertilizers, Chemicals, Dyestuff, etc in the western region of India, demand for safety appliances started to rise.

Safety appliance manufacturers worked hard to gain knowledge of hazards in different working conditions in various industries and started to produce equipment that ensured the protection of the industrial worker. Looking at the growth of the industry, the need for an association was felt.  Thus SAMA was born and today it has become a very well-established association with a strong membership base.

Right from the inception, the association had loyal and selfless workers, who have placed considerable effort to ensure consistent growth of the safety industry in India.

In its initial period of growth, the association received considerable information and assistance from the National Safety Council, Central Labour Institute, and the Council of Industrial Safety. They gave immense support & direction so that the safety appliances manufacturing industry could prosper.

SAMA has gained momentum now. Association is now working very closely with BIS to upgrade & form new BIS standards for various safety appliances. Association is also working closely with the central government to set up safety standards for workers in India across industries.

President's Message

At SAMA, we, continually work towards a fruitful collaboration between the Indian manufacturers of industrial safety equipment, so that we can provide the best solution/s to our end customer on the field.
Through innovative methods, a focussed approach, and seamless exchange of ideas, our efforts & energies are all directed towards making a significant impact within the industry in our country. Our motive is to strive hard through synergistic endeavors between the manufacturers, customers, and the Government to place India amongst the top nations in providing world-class safety at the workplace.

Vice President's Message​

SAMA has been formed with a vision to synergize its efforts for the comprehensive welfare of the industry. The efforts initiated by the then-industry conglomerates have been flourished with an increasing strength by joint forces of key industry stakeholders.   
Today, SAMA is striving for its seamless efforts to collaborate with competent authorities to comprehend an industry-friendly and conducive policy for the growth of the industry as a whole.

Hon. Secretary's Message

SAMA carrying its enriched legacy has taken many significant steps for the collective growth of the safety industry. Present charismatic leadership and executive members have taken initiatives like liaising with government departments for adopting industry-friendly policies which can contribute towards the growth of the industry. SAMA has taken many steps which have attracted business opportunities for the industry. SAMA is collaborating with business promoters like exhibition organizers etc. to fetch benefits for the members. We at SAMA strive to achieve more for the welfare of the industry with collective efforts.
